Dodgers Drop the Ball vs. Giants

James McDonald recalled from AAA and earns an L as Dodgers are unable to cash in 10 hits against the Black and Orange Pandas.

From my view at home, Dodgers looked lost out there on their own field. I saw poor base running, bad swinging, the works. RISP RISP RISP! Dodgers are 13-for-a million with Runners in Scoring Position. This is what can change a game and no one is coming in! Let’s hope Kershaw shows up as KKKKKKKKKKKKershaw. Dodgers badly need this series!

& for all my readers, thanks for reading. I appreciate you all! Especially those that get excited to read my entries LOL! You know who you are

Swept.

I can argue all day and all night about what mistakes were made and what could/should have been done instead. Simple fact is, we were swept. There’s nothing we can do about it now. We just have to swallow it and move on. We have a big series facing us. NL West Rivalry Dodgers vs. Giants. We can really use this to our advantage. Giants have been on a hot streak and now, we just need to bounce back. Let’s shake off the rough start to the 2nd half and look to tomorrow. As always (win or lose), Arriba Los Doyers!

Until Next Time,
Lily

Random Updates:

If you haven’t heard, James Loney will be having a signing. Below is the information:

Friday, 7/23/2010 12:00pm @ Metro PCS 2792 East 1st Street, Los Angeles, CA 90033

I will be showing up to this event along with a good friend Jessica. Luckily, this appearance is after his bobblehead giveaway day, so we’ll be able to get that signed. Let me know if you plan on attending!

Came across this cool MLBlog. 22-year-old grad travels with his brother to visit 30 stadiums in 60 days. So far, he’s traveled to 10 with Dodger Stadium and the Big A being his most recent. I really like this blog because I plan on traveling to all the stadiums once I finish school (May 2011). He looks like he’s been enjoying his time there. Check out his blog: 30 Stadiums in 60 Days

Modeling after Roberto from Vin Scully is my Homeboy, I have created my own Dodger shirt! I also bought two of his, from his shop Shirts by rbaly79. Very cool designs. Here is my first one:

I Bleed Dodger Blue Front

I Bleed Dodger Blue Back

Let me know your thoughts and feedback on this design and whether it’s something you’re willing to wear/buy. I will post up the link to my shop as soon as I get my own shirt mailed to me. =P

Also, if you have any suggestions for shirts (baseball or Dodger-related), feel free to email me at turtledip@gmail.com to see if it something I can put up there for you 🙂

Thanks again for checking the blog!

Until next time,

He Ain’t No Vin Scully.

Call me biased, but no one can call a game the way Vin Scully does. Even the most Dodger-hating Giants fan can disagree that Vin Scully is a master with words. He can paint a picture in your head on the radio & make you feel like he’s sitting next to you watching the game on TV. There is no doubt about it. Vin Scully will be missed when he decides he will no longer call a Dodgers’ game & it will be a very sad day when that does happen. Most Dodger fans dread the day that will to…some even to the extent that they are in denial it ever will. Because with no Vinny, we are left with the likes of Steve Lyons & Jim Watson to “entertain” us on the television, instead of calling a game. There is no majesty is their voice, nor will they remind of us of Gibson’s walk-off homerun in Game 1 of the ’88 World Series. Instead, they will try to tell a stale joke, tell a boring story, be “distracted” by a fly on a mic, all the while not even knowing that there’s a baseball game going on. It saddens me to know that this is what we end up stuck with. 22 years without a title and if we do not win one this year, we may be left without the century’s greatest sports broadcaster as well. It’s gotten to a point where Manny from Dodger Fever wants to start live broadcasting online because what is available to us is plain boring. When that days, I will mute my TV and listen to old Scully Broadcasts 😦 Sorry fans, had to vent >:o

Currently, Dodgers are continuing to put Sherrill in despite the fact that he was put on waivers. Can someone explain this please??

Until next time,

Arriba Los Doyers? UGH.

Dodgers Unable to Shoot Down Cardinals

Dodgers continue their shaky starts as Kershaw (just ONE K this time) was unable to hold the Cards on Thursday. He was pulled after just 4.1 innings of work. However, he gave up 5 runs (4 earned) off of 8 hits, walking 3 (season-high) and striking out one lowly birdy. Offense (minus Ethier who belted his 15th homer & secured his name as All-Star after the game) was also unable to make their mark. Cardinals had RBIs from 6 of the players in their line-up. Dodgers just couldn’t get it together. Carpenter is now a lifetime 6-0 against the Dodgers.

Was anyone else surprised to see Sherrill on the mound last night? Hadn’t he been waivered?! I felt lost and confused. Two feelings not too happy feeling.

Today, Billingsley is sent to the mound against Jaime Garcia. Hoping the Dodgers finally show up to play today, it’ll take pitching and defense to win this ball game against the surging Cardinals. Unfortunately, that is all I have for today. I will be scoring tonight’s game. Hoping to make it a good one! Remember to get your tickets to Loney’s Bobblehead night! See ya there 😉 & Arriba Los Doyers!

Until next time,

Senior Circuit Reigns Supreme

All eyes were on Anaheim as they hosted the 2010 All-Star Game. It was the power hitters of the American League against the unhittable pitching of the National League & the Senior Circuit broke their 13-year losing streak. 3-1 was the final score and it was Brian McCann of the Braves with the winning three-run double to give the future NLCS team home-field advantage against the AL in this year’s World Series. It was a sad moment for all Dodgers fan when Kuo was given the ball and let the one run come in after having blown an easy throw to1st. Still, Kuo remains hitless, Evan Longoria worked from a 0-2 count to get a walk. Though it would be the only run, Dodger fans were looking to Ethier, possibly the most clutch hitter in the game, to save the NL and Dodgers’ from another loss against the powerful AL. However, he was replaced by DBacks’ Chris Young who popped out. McCann then came back blast a 0-1 fastball and the rest is history. All this happened in the 7th. It was left up to the closer in the bottom of the 9th. Manuel chose the LA’s Iron Man himself, Jonathan Broxton and all eyes were on Big Jon to help the NL take home their first victory in over a decade. We know how Broxton has done in big win situations (see: NLCS 2008-2009). With help of Byrd and Rafael Furcal though, and after a leadoff hit of Big Papi, NL shut the door on the AL. In this baseball world we live in, two thing reign over anything else. Those two are Pitching & Defense. NL gave us both and well, every NL team now has another reason to fight for this WS title: home field advantage. It’ll definitely be a good WS at that. Lots of good pitching and hitting going on this year.

Dodgers start the second half on Thursday against the Cardinals in St. Louis. Last we saw the Birdies, they were swept, left limping to go back. We look to Clayton KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKershaw to give us a kick for the second half against none other than Chris Carpenter. We did not get to see Carpenter in the ASG, but just because he’s had too many days off shouldn’t mean we relax. Let’s hope our boys come back with another sweep under their belts. Enjoy the last couple of days of the All-Star break! And as always, Arriba Los Doyers!

Until Next Time,
Lily

WOOOOHHHHHHH we’re halfway there.
OOHHH Livin’ on a Prayer! Welcome, Ladies and Gentlemen. It is officially the
2010 All Star Break & Dodgers have 4 very deserving players representing
them on the National League team. Dodgers end the half with a 49-39 pct. Just 2
games behind the Padres tied with Colorado. The team is hitting well
collectively and it looks like they should fare well come second half.

Padilla pitched a brilliant 8-inning
shutout against the Cubs on Sunday night. His struck out 6 and finished strong.
It was nice to see his slow “soap bubble” pitch in person. Last minute plans
had me at Blue Heaven on Earth on Sunday night with my partner-in-crime (PIC),
Liz sitting in LFP! Great times. I tried my hand at scoring the game with NO
SUCCESS! It’s just very difficult to keep track in such a noisy area! Maybe if
I sat in a corner like loge or reserve. Oh, who am I kidding? I guess I’ll
score from home. Dodgers won 7-0 with a 3-run blast from Loney! This guy is
amazing! He’s just 3 RBI’s short of leading the majors! Now isn’t that
something? He’s underrated and overlooked. Just because he’s not making
millions to do what he does means he’s any less talented or deserving than the
big salary players. Look out for Loney because he’s only just getting started.

This is Turtle's Town!

Check out this mini billboard outside of RF Pavilion. It’s pretty freaking awesome! I got to make my own This Is My Town Billboard!

Dodgers' Angels

Only Angels around here are Charlie’s and they’re Dodgers fans lol

Though the countless All Star Break
celebrations have been going on since last week, the festivities officially
started Monday with the State Farm Homerun Derby and the All Stars Legends and
Celebrities Softball Game. To the surprise of everyone, David “Big Papi” Ortiz
won the derby by belting out 32 homeruns at the Big A. Hanley Ramirez from the
Marlins gave him a run for his money, but being that they were old friends, it
was just hugs and laughs after the fact. Ubaldo Jimenez has been slated to
start against the AL tonight at 8PM ET. Jimenez is an amazing pitcher and I’m
excited to see what he’ll bring to the table. Ethier is set to play center
field and bat 7th in the lineup. I’m hoping I can get a Furcal
jersey or shirt! However, it may be too late
L
Make sure you catch our boys battle for the home field advantage! Should be a
good game.

Wish Granted: Raffy is an All-Star!

It’s like the Baseball Gods read my blog & decided to grant me a wish. Rafael Furcal will be joining his teammates Andre Ethier and Jonathan Broxton in the 2010 MLB All-Star Game this Tuesday, July 13th. This will be his second ASG appearance since his MLB debut. I couldn’t be happier to hear that he was given the opportunity (though I do wish Jose Reyes NYM a speedy recovery). I’m glad he is being recognized in this manner. I will quote some of the fan comments from the Dodgers website about the news. They just describe him so well!

“You really deserve this after all you’ve been through…”

“Raffy has been the veteran backbone of this team…”

“I’m sure your dad will be proud and so are we.”

“A just reward for a player who has persevered over adversity…”

“When Furcal was playing for the Braves, I watched him turn a bunt into a double…”

“He is the key to the Dodgers’ lineup.”

“Seriously a well-deserved honor…”

Cubbies maul the Dodgers: Ely’s short outing earned him the L in yesterday’s game, as the Dodgers were unable to capitalize and lost 7-3 against Chicago Cubs. Dodgers send Padilla to the mound today (5pm) to close out strong before the All-Star break. He is 2-1 in his last three starts, giving up just 3 runs in 20 1/3 innings and striking out 21. I’m hoping to see another great outing! It’ll be a good game. I’m looking for tickets now, so hope to see you there!

Blogger Support: Roberto did me the great honor of shouting out my blog on his blog (love the blogger-blogger love/support) so if you don’t follow his blog already, check it out: Vin Scully Is My Homeboy

Until next time,

[Addendum: Looks like God is a Dodgers fan! Hong-Chi Kuo has been named a 2010 All-Star! Although he replaces Jason Heyward due to injury, we’re glad he was the one. He will be the first Taiwanese-born player ever to be an All-Star. Congrats Hong-Chi! You definitely deserve it :)]

The Baseball Scorecard

Teaching myself how to score a game on the score card/sheet. Since I didn’t grow up a Dodger fan, I had no one to teach me how to do all those fun things you lifers got to do! So I decided to score tonight’s game. Got help from http://www.baseballscorecard.com/

Here is what I ended up with:

ScorecardNot bad for the first try! I need a larger scorecard so it doesn’t look so messy =P

My mom asked me what I was doing and I told her keeping score. She said, “Como lo que hace tu abuelito,” which is “Just like what your grandpa does.” *gasp* My grandpa in Mexico is a HUGE baseball fan. I have uncles who have played all their lives and some that umpire. I have cousins that still play. I’m not sure why that passion didn’t project to my dad as much. Anyway, I just know I’ll have plenty of stories to tell my grandpa!

Until next time,

2 Up on the Cubbies & Fan Fest 2010

Dodgers pulled off another W against the Chicago Cubs tonight as Bills threw a solid 7 innings, earning 4 runs off of 4 hits (that totally contradicts what the fact that I said solid haha) walking 4 and striking out 9. He got the with the help of outstanding offensive support led by Ethier. Andre went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI’s. Loney was 2-for-3 with another RBI. RBI’s all round for Kemp, Blake, & even Martin! George Sherrill came in with one pitch and gave up a double and earned a run to bump up his already generous ERA to 7.32. Can we get rid of this guy already? (It sucks that he no longer has any options, so Torre is stuck with him). Miller pitched the 8th & top of the 9th, but Broxton was called in to close out the game, but gave up another 2 runs on top of Sherrill’s. He was finally able to get a 4-3 ground out. Another shaky save, but a save nonetheless. Two more games before the All-Star Break.

And what an ASG it will be! I was so excited when a friend of mine (who shall remain nameless due to the fact that he is a fan of the Yankees!) invited me to go to the FanFest today. Couldn’t say no. It was both our first time attending. Saw lots of cool memorabilia and clinics, little kids playing games and umpiring! All around, it’s a like heaven for a baseball nut. If you don’t have anything to do this weekend, make sure to stop by. The tickets are only $10. It’s an experience. Lots of cool giveaways and whatnot. Below are some pictures. Thanks again for thinking to invite me 🙂
